The Dunstable Downs are a chalk escarpment and a high point of the Chiltern Hills. Parts are owned by the Bedforshire County Council and administered by the National Trust who have a visitor centre on site. The views across the Vale of Aylesbury are spectacular.

It is a very popular site for kite flying with an annual "Kite Festival" in the summer and the London Gliding Club has its headquarters and landing field at the foot of the Downs. Originally gliders were "launched" from the top of the Downs by men pulling ropes. Nowadays winches and aircrfat are used.
