Records show that there has been a strong non-conformist church meeting in Kensworth since 1675 with open air services being held in a dell in a meadow. In 1810 the first church building came into being and later a chapel with a gallery and a Sunday School room were added. Many children received their only instruction in reading and writing here.
In 1935 the present Methodist church was erected, with electric heating and lighting. There was a Sunday School room as well but the only other building on the site was the toilet, which was at the bottom of the burial ground. The church building cost £1,277 17s which was raised by local effort.
Since that time much new work has been done on the church building, including the addition of facilities for people with disabilities. The Wesley Hall is used by community groups and for church fellowship meetings.
The congregation worship each Sunday at 10.30am, with Holy Communion once a month, and meet during the week for fellowship and Bible study. For more details please see our notice board. A warm welcome is offered to anyone who would like to join us. We also enjoy coming together with local Anglicans for united services of worship and fellowship together.
We support a school in the Gambia with prayer and regular financial help and have a strong link with the Methodist care home at Trembaths, Letchworth.
